The foundation stone for the re-construction of the new Church was laid by Late H.G. Zachariah Mar Dionysius on 15- 3 - 1992.
The New church was consecrated on 2nd October 1993 by H.G Thomas Mar Thimothios (Late bava Thirumeni H.H Baselious Marthoma Didymus I ) in the presence of Metropoliton Late H.G Zachariah Mar Dionysius (Madras Diocese), Late H.G Philipose Mar Eusebius (Thumpamon Diocese) and Late H.G Geevargese Mar Ivanios (Kottayam Diocese).

A Prayer group of all Malayalee Christians in and around the Padi , Korattur and Ambattur area was formed in 1966 which eventually took shape as the St George’s congregation of the members of the orthodox Syrian church .Rev Fr Joseph Karipayil was in charge of the congregation.Holy Qurbana was celebrated on public holidays and on certain Sundays at the Britannia school. Later the vicar of the St.Thomas church Broadway ,Madras took the charge of the congregation.

In 1976 a plot measuring about two grounds was purchased near the Ambattur Industrial Estate under the leadership of Rev.Fr. P.M Thomas and with the co-operation of the members of the Broadway church. The foundation church was laid on 20th December 1976 by His Grace Paulose Mar Gregorious. Metropolitan of the diocese of Delhi, while Rev. Fr. P.V Abraham was the vicar of the Broadway Church. On 5th March 1978 ,His Grace Stephanos Mar Theodosius consecrated the St. George Chapel when Rev.Fr.T.C Mathai was the vicar of the Broadway Church. Under which it continued to be a Chapel and the Holy Qurbana was celebrated on one Sunday every month.

The St.George Orthodox Syrian Church, Padi started functioning as an independent church about 26 years ago in a small church. We had only limited number of members

Zachariah MarDionysius on 15th March 1992 and started the construction of the New church after demolishing the existing church on june 1992 Under the dynamic leadership of Rev.Fr M.K Kurian and with the wonderful blessing of God almighty and generous contributions of all our well wishers we have been able to construct a beautiful church within a span of 16 months with an estimated value of twelve lakhs.
